The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics is redefining the way musculoskeletal care is delivered across the region with locations throughout Maryland, DC, Virginia and Pennsylvania.
A concussion is a type of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) defined by the CDC as a "bump, blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth". As a result, brain cells can get stretched and damaged and chemical changes can occur in patient's brains. Concussions are not always caused by sports injuries; many cases are the result of falls, blunt force trauma and car accidents
Baseline testing for concussions uses a neurocognitive computerized test to assess, monitor symptoms, and measures cognitive function in ages 12-59. Baseline test scores can be compared to post-injury scores to determine if a concussion was sustained, which can help healthcare providers manage and evaluate symptoms. Testing takes approximately 25 minutes and will be administered by licensed Physical Therapists.
Following testing, clients will receive a code to access their scores. This code can be given to any healthcare provider treating for a concussion to access their information.
Baseline testing is recommended yearly for Middle School aged adolescents, and every other year for those in High School.
We will be offering Baseline Concussion Testing at our Falls Church office on Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 8am-5pm. The rate is $40 per client; discount rate of $35 each for group (5 or more) registration. Clients must be age 12-59 on date of testing. No clients under the age of 12 will be permitted. This test is by appointment only. Call (703)769-8448 to schedule an appointment.
