What was your initial medical issue?
I was in need of bunion surgery for my left foot. I had pain in my foot consistent with an advanced bunion.
What did your pain or other symptoms prevent you from doing?
It made long walks and strenuous exercise difficult. I had bunion surgery on my right foot about 3 years ago. I was generally happy with the other surgeon, but not happy with the long recovery time following surgery.
Why did you choose Dr. Sanders and Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Center?
I had done research and read about a less invasive easier to recover from surgery and I couldn’t find a local doctor when I did my right foot. Decided to look again before taking the plunge with my left foot. I found Dr. Neufeld through an internet search of doctors that perform bunion surgery. I also by chance stumbled upon another patient of his at neighbors gathering. She spoke highly of Dr. Neufeld and cemented my decision to go forward with this surgery.
What procedure/treatment did you have done?
Minimally Invasive Bunion Surgery.
How did you feel after your treatment?
The surgery itself was not as long and I was able to use a special shoe and walk out of the surgery center. Pain was manageable and recovery was much speedier than my prior surgery. There was pain and swelling, but elevation and ice generally helped to mitigate that. I feel that the foot is strong and I can walk and hike as I need after 6 months. It was easier not to need crutches or a scooter.
Do you have any advice for other patients?
My best advice to potential bunion patients is not to wait so long. I waited because of the well known awful recovery of traditional bunion surgery. With this other technique, it should be appealing to more and more folks.
