What was your initial medical issue?
My initial medical issue was a bunion and hammertoe deformity in my right foot. It was causing me a lot of pain and discomfort, especially when I walked.
What did your pain or other symptoms prevent you from doing?
Prior to my surgery I did most of my normal daily routines. My doctor, Dr. Neufeld, then suggested I limit my physical activity, such as playing tennis.
Why did you choose Dr. Neufeld and Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Center?
I chose Dr. Neufeld and The Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Center because I was referred by a friend who had a procedure with him. I had heard good things about him, and I also liked the fact that the surgery could be done at a nearby hospital. So, I had no reservations going into it, knowing he was a good surgeon.
What procedure/treatment did you have done?
I had minimally invasive bunion surgery and hammertoe correction on my right foot. I also went to physical therapy here. I could've done PT near home, but I wanted foot and ankle specialists.
How did you feel after your treatment?
I feel great! There's no more pain in my right foot like there used to be. Occasionally, I might have some aches, but I attribute that to getting older. The swelling I initially had has gone down, and my foot looks a lot better now. I'm a school teacher, so I walk about 7 miles a day, and I can do that without any issues now.
Do you have any advice for other patients?
My advice for other patients is not to wait if you're in pain. If you have foot issues like bunions or hammertoes that are causing discomfort, you should get them treated as soon as possible. It's also worth noting that the healing process tends to be faster if you're younger. Dr. Neufeld never rushes surgery, which I appreciate, so when the time comes for me to address the smaller bunion on my left foot, I'll definitely come back to him. So, my advice is don't delay, and seek treatment from a skilled surgeon like Dr. Neufeld.
