The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics is redefining the way musculoskeletal care is delivered across the region with locations throughout Maryland, DC, Virginia and Pennsylvania.
I broke my ankle badly four months ago. As an active runner, skier, and climber, I was looking for the best and brightest to get me back on my feet again–Dr. Buchanan and OFAC came highly recommended by friends in sports medicine, and did not disappoint. Dr. Buchanan performed the surgery, with super-PA Nate Schaefer alongside, not only installing the plate-and-screw repair, but taking an extra hour to carefully remove a surprising amount of debris from the ankle joint. And what a pleasure Dr. Buchanan was to work with–generous at every turn with his time and expertise from years of getting athletes back to their sports, particularly skiers in Colorado.
Physical therapy guru Matt Bernier and his staff then took my repaired ankle and made it work again. Dr. Buchanan had me start with Matt early, and it paid off handsomely as I graduated from crutches and a scooter, to the walking boot, to the brace, and now back to my running shoes. Matt has built tremendous foot-and-ankle expertise, which he and his staff carefully deploy through diverse physical therapy activities (I’ll remember the Wii games with awesome Julie and Brandon in particular) and hands-on manipulation from Matt.
To top it off, OFAC’s facility is state-of-the-art, and I found their front desk staff–particularly Margaret in physical therapy–to be responsive, friendly and skilled.
I’m now confident my ankle is not just repaired, but ready for years more of running, skiing and climbing. I just returned from Europe–a long planned family-trip-of-a-lifetime three months after the break–and was thrilled to have walked and biked all over the place with my wife, son and daughter, including a six-mile hike in the Swiss Alps, thanks entirely to Dr. Buchanan, Matt Bernier, and OFAC!
