The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics is redefining the way musculoskeletal care is delivered across the region with locations throughout Maryland, DC, Virginia and Pennsylvania.
I had a bunion on my right foot that had been getting progressively worse over the past few years.
What did your pain or other symptoms prevent you from doing?
I experienced daily pain whether standing in place or walking. It was almost unbearable to wear any type of high heels.
Why did you choose Dr. Neufeld and Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Center?
I read an article last year about Dr. Neufeld’s minimally invasive bunion surgery. The article linked to a video featuring a patient story that I watched and I felt optimistic this may be something that would work for me.
What procedure/treatment did you have done?
I had minimally invasive bunion surgery on my right foot.
How did you feel after your treatment?
I felt numbness in my foot for the first two days as the numbing medication wore off. The only pain medication I used was at bedtime for the first three nights and this was mainly to help me sleep through the night. I did not need to take any medication during the day. I was fully weight-bearing and wearing comfy tennis shoes 4 weeks post-op with only some soreness around the small incision site.
Do you have any advice for other patients?
I would recommend anyone dealing with foot pain to schedule a consultation to see Dr. Neufeld. I was hesitant for a while to seek treatment because I did not want surgery. But, after meeting with him and learning that I was a candidate for minimally invasive surgery I was much more comfortable. The whole surgical process from check-in at the surgery center to returning home was only a couple of hours. Totally worth it!
